The Clovis Pet Hospital now offers LAPAROSCOPIC SPAYS and other laparoscopic procedures.
Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure for viewing the internal structures of the abdomen. A camera is inserted through a small incision which allows the surgeon to see organs and to perform certain types of surgical procedures without making larger incisions. The advantages to this are significantly less post operative pain and faster healing time for your pet.
A laparoscopic spay procedure is done through 2-3 tiny incisions. The ovarian ligament is carefully incised and cauterized rather than torn. A laparoscopic gastropexy can also be performed in larger breed dogs at the same time to prevent Gastric Dilatation and volvulus, commonly called "bloat". In the past, the incision needed to perform this type of procedure had to be quite large, up to 7-8 inches! Now it can be done with a MUCH smaller incision. Meaning less pain and faster healing.
