The History of Clovis Pet Hospital
Clovis Veterinary Hospital was founded in the 1950s by Dr. Richard West. Dr. West was a Frogman in World War II, fighting in the Pacific Theater. He operated in what is now a garage on Third and Clovis for about a year, then built the original permanent location on Lincoln and Railroad, practicing there for decades. Dr. West was a self made man, and built that building with his hands, with concrete and steel in every cell of the cinder block construction. It is pretty much a fortified bunker. He had sold the practice in the late 1970s to his associate. After several years his former associate remodeled a house on Hoblitt and Railroad and moved out of the Lincoln facility. Dr. West reopened on Lincoln as Clovis Pet Hospital and found Dr. Fenster to take it over about 9 months later, in 1987. The practice on Hoblitt was purchased by another vet, who built the present facility there and three years later sold it to yet another vet, who left the facility about a year later. Dr. Fenster bought the Hoblitt facility, and moved Clovis Pet Hospital from the Lincoln address to the Hoblitt and Railroad location in May, 2011, healing the schism that had existed since 1987.
